Garden tips for May
The merry month of May is known as the gardening month par excellence. We would therefore like to describe some of the problems that often occur in May and give you tips on how you can protect your plants from them.
Many insects and fungi benefit from the excessively mild winters of recent years, which multiply and spread very well in a relatively wet spring and can then lead to dreaded pest plagues and diseases on our plants.
We present the usual suspects here:
1. Aphids
The risk of an increased spread is high this year, as many pests have survived the mild winter.
Regular and preventative applications of Neem oil & Rimulgan will prevent them from nesting and building up colonies.
Check your plants several times a week and spray at the latest when the first aphids appear to prevent them from spreading.
2. Cabbage Pests
The various types of cabbage are a favourite vegetable in many gardens, but also popular with numerous pests. From cabbage white butterflies to cabbage flies, the aforementioned aphids and scale insects, many voracious guests feel at home here.
Our tip here is to sprinkle Neem press cake around the plants. This allows the young plants to absorb the bioactive ingredients of Neem. We then recommend regular spraying with Neem oil & Rimulgan.
3. Invading Pests
Some immigrant pests such as the box tree moth, the cherry vinegar fly or the walnut fruit fly are particularly feared and annoying.
You should definitely take precautions against all these pests on hedges, bushes and trees now in May with the tried and tested neem products!
Rule of thumb for application
The warmer and more humid the climate, the more frequently the neem products should be applied.
- If it is cool and dry, one or two applications in May are sufficient.
- However, if it is warm and humid, you should plan three to four applications.
Our Mildew Combi Pack Plus is particularly recommended for all the problems described above: In addition to Neem Oil & Rimulgan, it contains the plant strengthening agent Lebermooser and the basic ingredient Natron. Used together, the combination not only helps against voracious insects, but also against dreaded fungal diseases and bacterioses.
