Baking soda for pets
Baking soda is a great way to neutralise unwanted odours in your pet's coat or where they spend time. Baking soda not only neutralises odours, but can also be used for coat care, for example.
Cleaning your dog's coat and softening shaggy fur
Rub baking soda into the coat in the form of a dry shampoo, leave for a few minutes and then brush out. You can also mix two teaspoons of baking soda with a little water to make a paste and use it like a shampoo. Simply massage into the coat, leave on briefly and rinse out with lukewarm water. The coat will be beautifully soft and shiny afterwards, so that combing is possible without an ordeal.
Baking soda against odours in the litter tray
Of course, you still have to clean the litter tray regularly when using baking soda, but baking soda can bind the unpleasant odours over a longer period of time. To do this, mix approx. 100-200 g of baking soda into the cat litter. This binds unpleasant odours without the cat having to get used to fresh litter.
Baking soda can also be used to completely wash out the litter tray, as it also dissolves incrustations well. To do this, use two teaspoons of baking soda per litre of water.
Baking soda in small animal cages
Similar to cat litter trays, small animal cages smell unpleasant from time to time despite regular cleaning. This odour can be reduced by mixing about 100 g of baking soda into the litter. Baking soda is harmless to the animals.
Baking soda is also ideal for completely washing out the cage, as it can dissolve even stubborn encrustations well. Take about two teaspoons of baking soda to one litre of water.
Cleaning dog cushions
If the dog cushion fits in the washing machine, simply add two tablespoons of baking soda to the detergent. Both can be added directly to the detergent compartment for the main wash cycle and washed using the normal washing programme.
If the dog cushion does not fit in the washing machine, you can clean it in the bath or shower. To simply improve the smell, take a teaspoon of baking soda per litre of water and spray the dog cushion with it.
You can also effectively remove stains with baking soda. The best way to do this is to use baking soda paste (see here for instructions on how to make it).
